On April 8, 2024, the Adirondack Mountains will play host to a celestial spectacle, marking a momentous occasion for spectators across the region. With a total solar eclipse set to grace the skies, communities such as Inlet, Long Lake, Speculator, and Indian Lake are gearing up for an unforgettable experience.

Before we get to the details, let's start with some important tips:

  • Make a plan in advance and decide on your preferred viewing location.
  • Have a backup plan, in case traffic is heavy or parking is full.
  • Bring eclipse glasses for safe viewing. Limited quantities will be available at community information centers while supplies last, but plan ahead, just to be safe.
  • Utilize public restrooms available at designated locations.
  • Respect the environment and refrain from littering; carry out what you bring in.
  • Fuel up in advance, and have plenty of water, extra blankets, and snacks for the road trip.
  • Be kind and have a wonderful experience!

As the 2024 total solar eclipse approaches, our communities have been diligently planning for this once-in-a-lifetime celestial celebration in the heart of the Adirondacks. Don't miss out on this extraordinary experience!

Eclipse ADK - Indian Lake

Indian Lake & Blue Mountain Lake, New York

Eclipse Timing:

  • Partial eclipse starts: 2:12 p.m.
  • Totality starts: 3:25 p.m.
  • Totality duration: 2 minutes 3 seconds

Designated Viewing Locations:

  • Indian Lake Little League Field
  • Indian Lake Library/Town Hall Parking Lot
  • Blue Mountain Lake Beach

Event Highlights:

  • Parking is available at each viewing location.
  • Indulge in food and drinks available at local businesses throughout the community as well as food trucks.
  • Explore the Solar Eclipse Artisan Fair on April 6-7, 2024, at the Indian Lake Central School District.
  • Stay updated with event details through the Indian Lake Welcome Center, located at 6132 NYS Route 28.

Inlet, New York

Inlet, with its serene lakes and towering pines, provides a peaceful retreat to witness the spring eclipse. As the celestial event unfolds, immerse yourself in the tranquil ambiance of this Adirondack gem.

    • Partial eclipse starts: 2:11 p.m.
    • Totality starts: 3:24 p.m.
    • Totality duration: 2 minutes 44 seconds

Event Highlights:

  • Enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime event from Arrowhead Park, known so well for some of the best sunsets in the Adirondacks Park. 
  • Please note that most of these locations are near lakes. They may be covered in ice in April but will likely not be frozen enough to support you. Stay on solid ground and don't walk on the ice, no matter how safe it looks.

Long Lake & Raquette Lake, New York

  • Raquette Lake Timing:
    • Totality duration: 2 minutes and 46 seconds
